Booking your newborn session

One of the most common messages I get is clients asking when they should book their newborn session. Newborn sessions are great sessions because they capture those early days. Those tiny details within your new little one. That button nose, those tiny fingers and toes.

{Booking your session}

The best time to book your newborn session is during your pregnancy. I normally recommend booking your session once you have passed 14 weeks or as soon as baby is born. I know babies tend to have a plan of their own when it comes to delivery so the date we set before baby comes is not a set in stone date. I take a limited number of newborn sessions per month so setting a date early is best. Setting your date early also allows me to order and special props just for your little one if needed. Once baby arrives we will adjust the date if needed. The best time to photograph baby is when they are 6-14 days old. This time is when babies tend to sleep more and are more willing to bend into those adorable squishy baby poses. But no worries if your little one is past this age. I have captured newborns as old as 5.5 weeks.

{What happens during the session?}

I offer two types of newborn sessions.

Lifestyle sessions: These sessions take place in the comfort of your home. The session focuses on the family as a whole. We will use different aspects of your home such as the nursery, master bedroom and the living room. We will take pictures of the entire family and baby alone.

Studio sessions: These sessions take place in my in home studio. Studio sessions are more about the new bundle of joy you just brought home. We will capture a few family images and then it will be all about baby. In my home studio there is a large array of options of tiebacks and headbands. Buckets and bowls. And lots of adorable tiny little outfits made to fit a newborn perfectly. No need to bring anything with you, unless you have something that has sentimental meaning to your family.
